Hosting friends and family is always fun but let us be honest: thinking about cleaning up and after the party can feel like too much to handle. When you do not have a lot of time the secret is not to work it is to work smarter.
Here is your plan to get your home ready for guests. You will focus on the areas before they arrive and get your home back in order the next morning without getting stressed out.
Part 1: Getting Ready for Guests
When you are short on time just focus on what your guests will see. Do not worry about cleaning your bedroom closet or deep cleaning the kitchen. Just think about the areas that get used the most.
1. The Guest Bathroom: This is the Important Room
Your guests will notice if the bathroom is not clean. They might not care if there is a dust in the living room but a dirty bathroom is a big deal.
- The 5-Minute Rule: Use disinfectant wipes to clean the sink, counter and toilet.
- Pay Attention to Details: Put out a hand towel make sure there is enough toilet paper and empty the trash can.
- The Final Touch: Light a smelling candle or use air freshener right before your guests arrive. This will make your home feel clean and welcoming.
2. The Living Room and Entryway: Making it Look Nice
This is where your guests will spend most of their time. Just try to make it look neat and tidy.
- The “Basket Trick”: Grab a basket and pick up everything that is out of place like magazines, shoes and mail. Hide the basket in your bedroom. Sort through it later.
- Clear the Surfaces: Dust the coffee table and other surfaces.
- Fluff the Cushions: Make the sofa pillows look nice and fluffy. This will make the whole room look better.
Part 2: The Day After the Party
You wake up and the party was a success. Your home is a mess. Do not panic, just follow these steps to clean up quickly.
- Step 1: Open the Windows
Open all the windows to let in some air. This will get rid of any smells and make you feel more awake.
- Step 2: Pick Up the Trash
Walk around the house with a trash bag and pick up all the disposable cups, napkins and food wrappers. This will make your home look less messy.
- Step 3: Get All the Dishes in the Kitchen
Bring all the dishes to the kitchen and sort them out. If you have a dishwasher use it. If not let them soak in water while you finish cleaning.
- Step 4: Sweep the Floor
Now that the floors are clear just do a sweep or vacuum to pick up any crumbs or spills.
That is it. If you follow these steps your home will be back to normal, in no time. Do not let cleaning up scare you from having another party.
